A total of 46 contestants entered the competition. They originated from 13 countries in Europe, North America, Africa, Asia, and Australia, with a predominance from Sweden (21) and USA (10). There were 12 female and 34 male composers, and their ages spanned from 22 to 81, distributed over composers born in the 30’s (1), 40’s (4), 50’s (5), 60’s (11), 70’s (12), 80’s (10), and 90’s (1; two of unknown year of birth).
The 46 composers together composed over five hours’ worth of music, and the scores covered over 800 pages.
The jury worked blindly (with composer identities stripped from scores and audio files) throughout the process. Each member assessed and judged each contribution individually, and the jury then met for deliberations in Lund August 30-31.
The quality was high, and the jury had a tough job. We are delighted that these 46 composers have enriched the male choir repertoire with over five hours’ worth of music!
